Blanket and a Bible

As we come to a conclusion in our walk through the book of James, I want to give you a way we can all "LIVE LOUD" with our faith. Sudanese Christians have faced and are facing horrific persecutions. An estimated two million Sudanese have been killed during two decades of civil war, including many Christians. A glimmer of hope exists with the peace accords, and we can help our Sudanese brothers and sisters rebuild their lives and Christian witness. Sudanese Christians live a simple lifestyle, owning few or no material possessions. However, some items are essential to their survival. Just something as simple as a blanket can make a difference.

For more than 10 years, The Voice of the Martyrs has been active in Sudan delivering medical care, Sudan Life Packs, Scripture and pastoral training. To date, more than 250,000 blankets have been delivered, but more are needed.

We can help! To that end, our student ministry will be taking part in The Voice of the Martyrs' Sudan: Blanket and a Bible outreach. The process is simple: 1) Bring a good quality, new or used blanket, 2) Add $2 per blanket for handling and shipping into the Sudan, 3) Voice of the Martyrs will add a He Lived Among Us illustrated Bible storybook with each blanket.

Simple! Bring a blanket, $2, and we can make a difference and live our faith out loud! We will start collecting blankets and money on 2/18/09 and will continue to collect until 3/18/09. If you have any questions, comment below or shoot me an e-mail (pastorjason@enonbaptistchurch.org).

Remember this:
Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.
- James 1:27

What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and filled," without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
- James 2:14-17
