Yes, I said it. Reading is FUNdamental. One of the greatest gifts God has given you is a brain. With your brain you have the ability to think, reason, and comprehend what God has revealed to you. If you haven't begun to read (seriously read...not counting comic books or the instructions to your latest XBOX 360 game), you should start today! AFTER you read your Bible each day, I would encourage you to read another book (not counting your school text books) for at least 20 minutes. Just think of everything you could learn if you read 20 minutes a day for a year. I began to take reading seriously when I was a senior in high school. So...I challenge you to read. Use the mind God has graced you with. We are commanded to love God with all of our heart, soul, and MIND. Your faith is not just a warm fuzzy feeling you get when you sing songs to God. You've got to train your mind and meditate on the things of God...DAILY! Here's a list of recommended books that you could start reading today. (Some are more difficult than others, but if you are a junior or senior in high school, you could read any of them):
Don't Waste Your Life: by John Piper
Desiring God: by John Piper
Let the Nations be Glad: John Piper
The Lord of the Rings: by J. R. R. Tolkien
Mere Christianity: by C. S. Lewis
The Screwtape Letters: by C. S. Lewis
The Chronicles of Narnia: by C. S. Lewis
Knowing God: by J. I. Packer
The Gospel for Real Life: by Jerry Bridges
The Pursuit of Holiness: by Jerry Bridges
Humility: by C. J. Mahaney
I am not but I know I AM: by Louie Giglio
The Pilgrims Progress: by John Bunyan

Winter D_Group

For too long, the philosophy of student ministry has been that of defense..."if we can just keep kids off drugs, out of the backseat, away from alcohol, off the streets, and out of the gangs." This defensive strategy is not enough. We need a strategy that will produce soaring eagles rather than bobbing pigeons whose only goal in life is to avoid the oncoming traffic. Exceptional leaders are like eagles. Eagles are those Christian leaders who don't sit on their hands waiting for something to happen. They create excitement! Join us on February 10th at 6:00 p.m. as we start to develop eagles in our youth group. I hope to see you there!
